There are plenty of options that suit different types of travelers. There are places, that are perfect if you want to relax in the woods or sit around the chilling water streams. At the same time, there are options for adventurers, such as camping, trekking, biking and rafting etc. Himachal is also rich in the terms of culture and old architecture, so some of the interesting destinations are listed if you are interested in heritage.

How long you would like the trip to be is another factor you need to keep in mind when you are making travel plans. Although many options are appropriate only for a weekend or extended weekend, there are enough options for week-long or even longer trips. Kinnaur and Spiti are the two most interesting regions which can be planned in 8-12 days. Many travelers try to enter Kinnaur through Shimla and go into Spiti & come back via Manali. Being the capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla has diverse things to offer and there are unlimited number of off-beat options around this region. The deeper you go in Shimla district the more interesting things you find. Shimla itself is a great destination, although it gets crowded as well. But if that bothers you much, why not opt for other options that are almost as approachable. Places like Fagu, Mashobara, Narkanda, Kurfi, Chail, Hatu Peak, Kotgarh, Rampur may sound familiar but there are plenty of other places to visit.

Dalhousie is a small town in Chamba region of Himachal Pradesh and is easily accessible through Train till Pathankot. It is a peaceful hill station, if you just wish to relax. Surrounding places like Khajjiar, Kala Top Wildlife Sactuary, Dainkund, Chamba, Chamera Dam, Bharmour makes this whole region rich in terms of natural beauty. I have been to Dalhousie plenty of times and have always loved being there. It is less commercial as compared to Shimla and Manali. And there are plenty of options around Dalhousie, where you can go and stay in Homestays.

Solan is a beautiful region of Himachal Pradesh, which is closest to Chandigarh and Delhi. There are some interesting places around Solan, which are usually missed by tourists going towards Shimla. Solan town is very strategically located between Shimla and Chandigarh.
