Dechen Choekhor Monastery in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh | by Karan K Gupta

It was in October 2012, when I had a chance to visit Dechen Choekhor Monastery which had been newly constructed in Shadabai, Kullu. Kullu town is comparatively closer to my hometown and made it easy for us to go for checking out new place. This Photo Journey shares some of the moments spent around Dechen Choekhor Monastery and few details about the place.

We were a group of four friends who had met after years in Kullu for a wedding. I love the fact of social gatherings in India, which force you to meet your friends & relatives at one place. This works really well for most of us who are usually busy in routine life & hardly take time off to visit friends/relatives. As I had shifted from Kullu after spending ten golden years of my childhood to adolescence, I was not aware of the marvelous Monastery being there.
It was a sunny day and all I remember is that we all basked in the green area around the Monastery. Dechen Choekhor Monastery is well located around green mountains of Kullu region in Himachal Pradesh. Overlooking Himalayan ranges covered with snow make this place more beautiful.
There was utter silence and we all sat there under the sun for unbelievably long time quietly. I know it sounds odd that you meet after long time and don't talk for a long time, but that's something different around such places & himalayas makes those emotions stronger.
The scenic view of Picturesque Kullu valley was mesmerizing. Talking about architecture, one may find resemblance of all monasteries almost similar to others, but each Monastery has its own story to tell.

I loved the different shades blended so well together. When we visited, there were very few folks around this place and we found it unbelievably peaceful. And few miles away, it was complete chaos with vehicles and other noisy things. As there is not much to talk about I will let the pictures do the talking.
