This hiking tour starts from Blanca Beach and one needs to pre-book this hiking tour so that staff can do appropriate preparations. Hiking guide waits at the Blanca Beach, and before starting the hike he explains about do's and don't of the hike and hands over water to everyone. So here goes your first tip - carry a small bag with you to carry water and another important thing would be mosquitos repellent. The hike starts with small walk on the beach and then you take a small cut on the left and follow the trail. In initial part of the trail, it's rough through lot of bushes and trees around. One needs to be careful and it's recommended to wear cloths which can cover your body well - mainly to avoid mosquitoes and other insects in the forest. There are some pretty interesting plants on this hike. The Guide is very well knowledgable person and tells you about most of these plants, trees and birds you see on your way. It's hard to remember all facts. He was open to any kind of questions on our way to the top. Some of the folks in the group were getting tired very soon, and our guide was awesome in coordinating/engaging everyone, especially some of the kids in our group. After walking for few minutes you come across this wooden bridge which is sort of beginning of the climb. During the hike, many times you go deep inside the forest and suddenly bay beaches are close to you. If you notice in above photograph, beach is very close to the place where we are walking. After climbing 200+ stairs, you reach this point where you cross through a tunnel. There is nice place to sit here. While climbing up through these stairs, we saw few howler monkeys. Costa Rica has various varieties of monkeys and it's normal to hear sounds of howler monkeys.

For a long time, you see different views of the resort & the bay through forest. Above photograph shows another view of the Bay. The edge of Peninsula you see in above photograph is completely with Four Seasons and lot of villas are spread over it & overlooking the bay.

During this hike, we also saw lot of birds and I was regretting that I was not carrying my camera. But the good part was that most of the birds we saw during this hike were familiar as we had seen all of them in Monteverde.

The Papagayo Peninsula is located on the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica and is in the northwest province of Guanacaste. This part is located in the Golfo de Papagayo, and was formed by volcanic activity and by weather. The 15 miles of coastline contains 30+ separate beaches.

As we got closer to the entry gate of Four Seasons Resort, we had another person waiting for whole group to hand over another set of water bottle. These are only occasions when plastic bottles are used at Four Seasons Resort. Otherwise they have put glass bottles in room and those are refilled on regular basis. Four Seasons is certainly very conscious of environment and for that matter Costa Rica is very aware of sustainable ways of generating energy and growing tourism.

Papagayo Peninsula is popular tourist destination and is home to the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica, which includes an Arnold Palmer Signature Course. The peninsula also includes a small selection of luxury homes and properties, there are also multiple new projects that are being developed in the area and we saw some of them during this hike. Per government mandate, 70% of the land in the Peninsula Papagayo must remain natural ensuring that the beauty of the land is not lost to overdevelopment and that makes this a very special place. It was 1.5 hours long hike and we enjoyed thoroughly. If you are at Four Seasons and like hiking, go for it.
