Ooty – The Queen in the Blue Mountains of Tamil Nadu state of India (By Avni Jain)

Pollution, traffic and increasing population are major cause for global warming and the cities are getting warmer because of this. To rescue us from the heat, there are many hill stations and cold places all over in India where we can go and treat ourselves for a few days. Ooty is that place. It has everything which will make you go wow about the place and will make you enjoy every little part of your trip.

Ooty to Wayanad distance is just 110 kms.

Ooty is known as the queen of hill stations in South India. It is situated in the ‘Blue Mountains’ the Nilgiris, which makes this place even more beautiful. It is situated in the state of Tamil Nadu. There is no rail connection to Ooty and the nearest airport is in Coimbatore and most easy way to reach is through buses or you can even drive in your own car. You can also hire a self-drive car. How to reach Ooty is not that daunting like many other hill stations as it's connected well.

Ooty weather is the most interesting part which is core propagator of tourism in this region of Tamilnadu.

I went there with some of my friends. We took bus from Bangalore which took us approximately 6-7 hours to reach. You can opt any AC or non-AC bus as per your preference. The only mode of transportation in Ooty are buses and autos, there are no cabs like uber and ola available there. If you miss a public transport then you have to take an auto which is an expensive affair if you are on a budget trip. There are private taxies available but you have to take their package which starts with 2000 Rupees. We planned a 4-day trip. Our hotel was situated at the outskirts but had the best view, waking up to such dreamy scenery were breathtaking moments.

Ooty map can be helpful if you don't have a fixed plan and want to just roam around & take decisions as you walk or drive.

We reached Ooty at nearly 7 in the morning. After taking some rest, we headed to explore the beautiful hill station. There are many places to visit in ooty but we managed to cover :

St. Stephens Church,
Ooty Botanical Garden,
Boat House,
Government Rose Garden,
Dodabetta Peak,
The Tea Factory and Museum,
Wax World Museum,
Horticulture House.

Ooty is very famous for its freshly made chocolates, and tea. If you are a person who loves to collect handicraft, loves chocolate and tea then you must visit this place. The best places to eat are Adyar Ananda Bhavan and Maneck Group of Hotels and also try the local delicacies.

Ooty is a beautiful getaway if you want some time with nature and away from city chorus. The vibe of this place is going to make you feel like heaven. There is a sense of calmness and peace which will make you fall for his place. This place has always been the beautiful city on its own and every one who coms here just wish to visit this place very soon in their life again. I feel glad and wonderful that at least I got a chance to visit this beautiful city.

If you liked this post and found it helpful, I would request you to follow these things when traveling -

  1. Manage your waste well and don’t litter
  2. Use dustbins. Tell us if you went to a place and found it hard to locate a dustbin.
  3. Avoid bottle waters in hills. Usually you get clean water in hills and water bottles create lot of mess in our ecosystem.
  4. Say big no to plastic and avoid those unhealthy snacks packed in plastic bags. Rather buy fruits.
  5. Don't play loud blaring music in forests of jungle camps. You are a guest in that ecosystem and disturbing the locals (humans and animals) is not polite

Hey Avni - Thanks for taking us through this beautiful journey to Ooty. Very well written and now it's tempting to plan a visit to Ooty. I have been to Wayanad for a week or so and had plans to visit Ooty but there was so much in Wayanad to explore so we skipped it.

Thanks Lavanya for editing the post so beautifully.
