Canon 200D - Another interesting entry level DSLR camera with some advanced features

Supposedly Canon EOS 200D is world's lightest DSLR and is being considered into the range of DSLRs between the entry-level EOS 1300D and the more advanced EOS 760D model. I think it would be reasonable if I say it's an entry level DSLR camera for little serious photographers who want more than what they can achieve with their phone cameras. Am I doing a wrong comparison? May be, but that's how I would describe it in this world of cameras all around.

Canon EOS 200D is a good camera to buy if you want to learn more about photography and develop  skills beyond the limitations of a camera phone or basic compact camera.

Like it's predecessor Canon EOS 100D, it is designed as small as possible while being lightweight and convenient to carry on the go. Does that mean, it can be a good companion for travel? maybe.

The EOS 200D looks small and light but don't underestimate it in features. It has some coolness around Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, a vari-angle screen and Wi-Fi, although much more than this which is worth looking at when you decide about buying a DSLR camera.

Here are some quick facts, if you care about megapixels a lot. Personally I don't. Anything around 12-16 is good for my personal use and certainly there are downsides of high megapixels in low light. But that also doesn't matter in the world of high megapixel cameras.

FPS shows how fast you can click your photographs. 5fps is reasonably good and you can be confident if you have to click your kid playing & making some instant expressions. Just be attentive and if you click in burst mode, camera's high fps will ensure that you have a good shot.

One of the major reasons why one should opt for DSLR instead of other cameras is range of interchangeable lenses you can use. With Canon 200D body there is good range of lenses that you can use.

24.2-megapixel photographs with relatively richer details and colour. The photographs look fantastic straight from the camera – perfect for big prints, photobooks and on-line galleries and great for telling stories with your photos. Camera shoots in 2 file formats - raw & JPEG. JPEG makes more sense for personal usage and you can skip the hassle of dealing with raw files in Canon software which you get with the camera.  EOS 200D has DIGIC 7 processor so it can capture pictures in low-light conditions, and Dual Pixel CMOS AF.

The EOS 200D’s large APS-C sensor makes it easy to shoot with shallow depth of field – ideal for portraits : here we are talking about photographs you see with blurred background. So add more to these kinds of effects you can get more lenses with better f value. 35mm prime and 50mm prime are quite popular but not recommended until you make best of the kit lens with comes with this camera - 18mm-55mm.

With EOS 200D you can shoot using a lag-free optical viewfinder that shows the world as it really is, or compose using a smartphone-like Vari-Angle display and enjoy an awesome Live View AF.

The EOS 200D’s camera has a guided user interface which helps you to choose the right settings for the effect you want to create. It’s like having your own personal photography tutor standing right next to you. That sounds cool but I would want one of my non DSLR users to try it and share the feedback. I am curious how effective it is. I couldn't make out because I already know some of these tricks to hard to say how effective it would be for new people, but certainly worth looking for.

The coolest part is that when you are traveling with your Canon 200D, you can transfer the photographs to your phone over bluetooth and view your photographs. If I would have this camera, I will make best of it by processing the photographs instantly on phone use for my instagram :)

Camera looks promising and I am more excited about how technology advancements are accessible to everybody these days. Please drop us your specific questions and comparisons you would want us to do.

If you liked this post and found it helpful, I would request you to follow these things when traveling -

  1. Manage your waste well and don’t litter
  2. Use dustbins. Tell us if you went to a place and found it hard to locate a dustbin.
  3. Avoid bottle waters in hills. Usually you get clean water in hills and water bottles create lot of mess in our ecosystem.
  4. Say big no to plastic and avoid those unhealthy snacks packed in plastic bags. Rather buy fruits.
  5. Don't play loud blaring music in forests of jungle camps. You are a guest in that ecosystem and disturbing the locals (humans and animals) is not polite
