How did I manage a week long trip to Spiti Valley in less than 4000 Rs

I know some of you may not like me doing these posts and I also had some conversation offline wherein local people of hills don't really want to encourage tourism, because more tourists means bigger issues in terms of cleanness & wastage of natural resources in many ways. When you talk to locals of any tourist destination, there are always mixed inputs. There are always some people who look at Tourism as business, while others look at tourists as spoilers. And in my opinion, you can't stop things but find out sustainable ways to continue the journey. Without saying much on this bigger topic, I would simply want to move on to the main topic of how I managed to do Spiti trip from Shimla to Shimla in less than 4000 rupees and the trip for 6 days long.

This was one topic that was nudging me for long time now and I don't have a clear answer. Since this blog has helped me learning various things, I thought why not I start writing about it to put my thoughts because I find it best way to refine my own thoughts and it's an opportunity to get away with some of my biases as well, in best possible way.

And as a travel blogger it's important for me to enable passionate travellers and share information which helps them plan better. I know the information becomes public and irresponsible guys would also be accessing it. But hiding details is never a good solution. It's always important to resolve first level problem and then actively chase next set of issues. And in case or responsible tourism, it's responsibility of everybody involved in that eco-system. Travelers, Tourists, Folks into tourism business, media, local organizations, local government and most importantly local people. I was super impressed when I visited Sikkim and saw people contributing actively towards the cleanness. Now that I have justified my act :), let me start with the post and how I managed to explore Spiti with less than 4000 rupees.

If you have checked my last few posts about Spiti, they would give you a sense that we were driving throughout and explored some of the awesome places in Spiti Valley. During this time, we enjoyed local food in some of the homestays and dhabas. Food is not ver expensive in Spiti so that certainly one of the contributors towards low cost trip. Similarly, there are not very expensive hotels in this region. Even if you want to spend more money, you don't have many options :). But the biggest factor is the group you chose for travel and ensure that everybody is flexible & comfortable. I think it's nothing more than that and if you want to know more about the detailed tips, do check out our series of Spiti. If you liked this post and found it helpful, I would request you to follow these things when traveling - 1. Manage your waste well and don’t litter Use dustbins. 2. Tell us if you went to a place and found it hard to locate a dustbin. 3. Avoid bottle waters in hills. Usually you get clean water in hills and water bottles create lot of mess in our ecosystem. 4. Say big no to plastic and avoid those unhealthy snacks packed in plastic bags. Rather buy fruits. 5. Don't play loud blaring music in forests of jungle camps. You are a guest in that ecosystem and disturbing the locals (humans and animals) is not polite
