Life in Little Lhasa - by Parnashree Devi

"Life in Little Lhasa" is a short Travel Film which gives you the glimpse of Tibetan lifestyle and also will take you to the breathtaking natural surroundings of this spectacular place.

It was last summer when I came across to this tiny, beautiful place in Himachal Pradesh which is popularly known as McLeodganj.
McLeodganj is known for monasteries, Tibetan culture, mouth watering food, the majestic Dhauladhar range and spectacular Kangra valley. This place is also known for its holiness Dalai Lama’s residence. It’s often called as  “Little Lhasa”.

Situated at the height of 2,082 meters, this spectacular place not just offers you the majestic Dhauladhar range, but it will take you to a world of serenity, peace, and wonder. While in a narrow, crowded lane where you find  not just Monks, but  a bunch of tourists along with the locals all the time. Amidst this chaotic narrow lane of Mcleodganj, this place offers you absolute calmness as soon as you step in the monastery.
Like a wanderer, I was in love with this place and decided to explore it by foot. I was stunned by the this place called Kora Walk …the small narrow trail behind the monastery will take you to one of the most colorful corners of this beautiful place. All you could see are the colorful Buddhist prayer flags and big stones with Buddhist Mantras. Traditionally, it is said that prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. To clarify that the flags do not carry prayers to 'gods,' which is a  common misconception many people have,  rather, the Tibetans believe that the prayer flags spread the good will into all pervading space with its prayers and mantras. As wind passes over the surface of the flags it is said that the air is purified and sanctified by the Mantras.
While exploring this trail, I came across to a few local Tibetan women with whom not only I shared my smile, but  had the most amazing time sitting on a bench to have some local food. It was fantastic when you are welcome by strangers and became part of your journey for a few moments.
My next destination was Naddi - the Sunset point. The breath taking view of Himalayas with three most beautiful peaks just mesmerized me like anything. It simply felt that heaven was right here on the earth. As the sun was slowly leaving its last rays in the valley, a new edition of beauty had just added with The Moon in the sky spreading its charm on the top of the Himalayan peaks. It holds you to stay back to stare for hour after hour.
If you are in Mcleodganj, trek to Triund should be on your bucket list. Situated at the height of 2842 meters above sea level, trend is one of most visited trekker’s paradise. The 9 KM trek from Bhagsunath to Triund was one of the most adventurous journey I expirineced till now. When you are surrounded by the snow capped mountains, when you could only see snow beyond the horizon, and when the cold breeze just touches your face with fragrance… what will you call it then? I call it “ The Perfect Moment “ . The whole aura was surreal .
So, While exploring his incredibly beautiful valley, I decided to capture all those treasured moments into my lens and make a Travel Film. And,  that’s how I have ended up making  “Life in Little Lhasa” .
