Banasur Sagar Dam, Wayanad - A perfect place for a long walk in the morning || Kerala Diaries

When we were staying at Bamboo village in Wayanad, we planned a day outing to Banasura sagar dam, Pukkode lake and Suchipara waterfalls. Again we took an auto for this day tour and headed towards Banasura dam, which was a drive of an hour from our home stay. No need to say that drive was again through beautiful landscapes full of Coconut/Areca trees, Coffee plantations, Banana farms, tea gardens and various spice plantations. We left at around 8:30am in the morning and when we reached the dam, there was no one at the ticket counter. When we were 8 kilometers behind the destination, Banasura lake started following us on the left side. Early morning hues were looking awesome in the reflection of the lake water. We bought tickets from the counter and then there was a walk of around 1.5 kilometers till the the area which was developed for tourism. This was a lakeside place which has a port dedicated to park boats. There were 3 speed-boats as well.It was a lovely walk around green region full of lot of birds making different sounds. There was a small bird around the trees which was making a sound of ‘flying kiss’ and we named her - ‘kisschidi’ :). Thereon we met that bird multiple times during our Kerala trip. After a while we hit a region from where lake was completely visible. Then we noticed few families walking around. Some of the folks were using horses to ride till the boating point. Two types of boats are available at the port. Charges for speedboat were 500 Rs per ride and 1200 for other boat.At a time, 5 people can ride on a speed-boat and this ride is of 15 minutes. We found another couple there to share the speed-boat and saved 250 rs. :).He was the driver of our speedboat. It was second time I was riding a speed-boat. Long time back I had experienced the same in Govind Sagar lake around Bhakhra Dam.Speed-boat ride was fun. 15 minutes ride in a speedboat is enough. They take you around various the islands in the lake. The experience of ride is more interesting, as you see similar landscapes all around. This was another boat which was slow. 12 folks can ride this boat at a time and it costs 1200 Rs.After speedboat ride, we noticed a sketch artist sitting around the lakeside. He was making portraits, caricatures and cartoons. Somehow I also planned to go for the option which was less time-expensive.Tanish Daniels made my cartoon in 7 minutes and I loved it. Can you guess the fees he charges for a cartoon? We wanted to have some snacks but couldn’t find anything interesting around the dam, so headed towards Pukkode lake after Banasura and had some snacks there.

When we were staying at Bamboo village in Wayanad, we planned a day outing to Banasura sagar dam, Pukkode lake and Suchipara waterfalls.
