A visit to Janjehli Valley in Mandi region Himachal Pradesh || Photo Journey by Karan K Gupta

I have this second opportunity to share with you a Photo Journey to the less explored 'Janjehli Valley' in District Mandi of Himachal Pradesh. The picturesque valley of Janjehli is a place less frequented as it is not that popular yet on tourist map. Well it was Monsoons of 2012 and it was pouring heavily, but I decided to visit the place as a friend of mine belonged there. It was approximately 90 kms from my home that I finally reached my friend’s place. The road had been recently carpeted and the journey was smooth. Singular but neat roads avoided the problems otherwise faced during monsoons. The temperature was quite on the lower side and woolens were necessary. It was a drastic change just within 3 hours time. In evening we headed for Maa Baglamukhi Temple, located amidst dense forests. The place was located round 2 kms from the main road and was quite peaceful. The temple had great architecture work. The next day I had full plans of visiting Shikari Mata temple which was around 20 kms from my friend’s village and situated at an altitude of 2850 mts above sea level. But when I woke up in morning it was pouring heavily, but somewhere in my heart I knew that I would be visiting the temple that day itself. At around 11 am the rain stopped and sun was shining brightly, I strongly insisted my friend to get moving, despite the fact that the road which passes through sanctuary area would be in pretty bad shape after the rains. But seeing my determination my friend kept his word and we started off on his bike. Reaching our destination was not that easy as bike skidded off numerous times, but we made it safely. From the point till where the vehicles reach, one has to climb some 500 plus steps to reach the temple. The beauty and uniqueness of this temple is that it doesn’t have a roof. The legend is that whenever the surroundings are snow covered, there is no snow in the temple area.

Memories of Jenjehli refreshed ....beautiful place it is...Shikari Devi Temple has changed alot...when I visited ths place in 2001, it was more of a hiking destination as temple road was hardly motor-able and town too was quite remote but it seems time has progressed things alot here. Beautiful pics....wish to visit it soon!!
