Gleann Maghair - GLANMIRE in Ireland by Brian O Sullivan

Brian O Sullivan sent all these photographs from Ireland to me through Naresh (Director, CSW Technologies) and want to thank both of these guys before starting this beautiful Photo Journey to GLANMIRE !!!

Glanmire (Irish: Gleann Maghair) literally meaning ‘The valley of the small fish; The valley of the ploughed land:' The Still Vale: The Valley of the Young Fish) is a suburb in Metropolitan Cork, Ireland with a population of 15,498.  (courtesy - wikipedia)

What a lovely photograph with nice houses with lot of green area in surroundings...

"Glanmire" is used by residents of the area to mean the Greater Glanmire area, encompassing Riverstown (Baile Roisín), Brooklodge (Cill Ruadháin) and Sallybrook (Áth na Sailí) areas. These are all four semi-distinct adjacent villages with many facilities shared between them. (courtesy - wikipedia)

There also is an area outside Glanmire called Upper Glanmire, which includes Whites Cross, Sarsfields Court, Ballyphilip, Ballinaparson, Coolgreen, Templemichael and Buck Leary's Cross. (courtesy - wikipedia)

Glanmire has a long history that dates back to early Christian Ireland. The stone bridge located in Riverstown is one of the oldest constructions in Cork. Oliver Cromwell is reputed[citation needed] to have ridden over it, when he inspected Glanmire during the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland. Brian of Glanmire, nephew of the Gaelic king Brian Boru, lived here. At the parish church located on a hill above the village, Sarah Curran, lover of the hanged Robert Emmet married Captain Henry Sturgeon in 1805. (courtesy - wikipedia)

In the 1800s Glanmire was much smaller, and mainly just consisted of the village area. It was a highly industralised area with woolen factories and mills scattered around the nearby river Glashaboy. A smallpox fever once killed many people in the village. Riverstown House, actually located nearer Brooklodge, was resided in at this time. It was in the 20th century that Glanmire started to expand. In the later half of the century, more houses and facilities were built. (courtesy - wikipedia)

Again thanks to share such a lovely place through photographs and hope to see more Irish places through different PHOTO JOURNEYs !!!
