Kala-Top trek is near Dalhousie which is a very popular Hill Station in Himachal Pradesh state of INDIA. Here I am sharing few photographs of KALA TOP trek with some background about this trek... Check out...Kala Top is a Wild Life Sanctuary but we were not able to see any wildlife there though we enjoyed different walks inside the forest....Its an amazing and different trekking experience of going through Kala-Top having thick forests of Deodar (Cedar) trees on alpine hills.A wooden house on the way to Kala Top from Dalhousie...Its a stretch of 12 kilometers approximately from Gandhi Chowk in Dalhousie. We have cross beautiful Bakrota Hills which give clear view to Peer-Panjal mountain range, Bara Pathar, Alha and Lakkar Mandi. I think Lakkar mandi is 9 km from Dlhousie and Kala top is 3 km from Lakkar Mandi...There are two treks to reach the first milestone which is Bakrota Hills.. One is through a Kamala Nehru Park and other is through Dalhousie Public School and Central School for Tibetans which are located on Raizada Hans Raj Road... We decided to follow the road first...Rabindrabath Tagore spent few months with his father at Snowdown cottage at Upper Bakrota hills...Next Milestone Bara Pathar was a good place to have a tea break near an open amphitheater and a temple...Here is a view of road inside Kala Top Wild life sanctuary...Trekking is best way of appreciating the beauty of nature and especially when you are at hills covered with snow and surrounded by huge deodars making dense forests...Time to go back to the hotel and take some rest before next trek to Dainkund near Dalhousie... I will share more photographs of Dainkund Trek soon....Few people prefer to reach Lakkar Mandi by Taxi/Bus and trek other part till kala-Top...There is a Forest Guset house at Kala-Top and not sure if it can be booked for unofficial reasons... Vehicles are not allowed inside this forest without permission from Forest Department...My friend Vikas taking some rest on the way to Kala Top... He is a trek enthusiast and had been to many difficult treks in Himachal Pradesh... He is the one with whom I was able to complete Shrikhand Mahadev Trek :-)There are many such ponds in this forest which serve water needs of wild animals in Kala Top Sanctuary...Another mud house having wooden roof... There are few such houses inside the jungle where nobody lives but they give a feeling of haunted houses in dense jungle...There are many such boards on the way but in reality we didn't see anything... But we were very happy with the natural beauty of the forest @ Kala Top, Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh...

Very Nice Pics VJ.

I went to Dalhousie in March this year but did not go to Kala Top. Guess I missed something worthwhile....
Yes I guess :-)

Its a nice place..

There is another place(Trek) called Dainkund near Dalhousie... Calm place on very high mountains...
Hi Dr Payel, Thanks for dropping the comment. Let me try to answer most of your queries -

Yes, you can visit Khajjiar and Kala Top on same day. I suggest you to visit Khajjiar first and then comet to Kala Top. For two reasons - Khajjiar should be first priority and you should have enough time to explore Khajjiar and in worse case, you can skip Kala Top :). Kala Top comes on the way from Khajiar to Dalhousie.

You may also want to check - http://phototravelings.blogspot.in/2010/08/main-places-to-visit-around-dalhousie.html

You don't need any permissions. If you are taking a vehicle inside, there is a minimal fees you need to pay at the entry gate. Otherwise, simply walk inside.

When we went, there was no such provision to have guide or something. So hardly any restrictions.

That's a good decision to go to Mcleodganj/Dharmshala from Dlhousie. Please feel free to ask your specific questions and I would be happy to answer them. One basic information I would need - time you have?

Hi Rishi Ji,

You can do Dharmshala and Dalhousie regions in 4 days but it would be littlw aggressive. There are plenty of places aroud Dharmshala and Dalhousie. Around Dharmshala, you can plan to visit Mcleodganj, triund, naddi, palampur etc but cant do evrything in 2 days there. Check our other posts about these places.
