Barua Sagar Lake and Barua Sagar Fort, Uttar Pradesh || A lesser known ASI protected place to visit around Jhansi and Orchha

Barua Sagar is a city in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, and gets its name from Barua Sagar Tal, on the banks of which the city is built. We were looking for places to see around Jhansi and Orchha and chanced upon this place, which sounded interesting. So after lunch we started for this place from Jhansi fort. It took us one hour on our car.

However, we had a slight misadventure on the route, so it wasn't a dull drive per say. And all thanks to Google, who had a big part to play in the misadventure. We were driving an SUVish car and a big one at that, and Google took us into the streets of Barua Sagar, which kept getting narrower at every turn.

Then ultimately we reached a point where we were head-on with a swift being driven by a police officer. We could clearly see that he had space to back up behind him, while we would have to reverse a long way to give him a pass. However, he kept sitting, staring at us from behind his windshield. Then a passerby asked us to roll down our window and told us in a matter-of-fact way, that "peechey to aap ko hi lena padega". So we swallowed our pride and started reversing. Such is the beauty of Uttar Pradesh.

So we followed their advice. And soon enough we were close to Barua Sagar Fort. However, this was Durga Pooja time and a procession was on its way to the fort and adjoining Barua Sagar to immerse the idol of the Goddess. The route was blocked, and another police personnel directed us to the point from where we would be able to reach the Barua Sagar Tal, if not the fort. So we decided to take that.

And when I talk about the Tal, it is difficult to comprehend the size of it. You could not see the opposite banks from where we were standing. There were also some islands jutting out of the water. And there is a also a waterfall where many locals were bathing and playing in water.

Apparently, the waters of the lake are also home to crocodiles so you can spot written warnings everywhere asking people not to venture into the water. But people were venturing in. :). When has the risk of losing our lives ever deterred us Indians?

The place was more or less clean and beautiful, but it was sunny and hot and we didn't feel up to venturing into the water. Probably if it was closer to sunset, it would have been prettier, but we had planned to watch the sun go down behind Orchha's chhatris, so we had to head back.

There were a few boats out and about on water. Momentarily the thought of requesting these boatmen to take us to some of the islands crossed our mind, but the fear of crocodiles and also the fact that we didn't think the islands would be worth exploring quickly dispelled this quirky thought.

Overall, the place is pretty, but has a lot of potential to be made more friendly to tourists. Not by creating an amusement park or adding shops and kiosks, but by providing canopied areas from where people can enjoy the sight of the grand lake without getting roasted in the sun.

On the banks of Barua Sagar tal, there is also the temple of Maharshi Shringirishi, who had married Mata Shanta, the sister of Lord Ram. You need to cross this temple to reach the waterfall and to climb up to the embankment of the Barua Sagar Tal.

  Dalhousie is one of the most popular Hill Stations in Himachal  and there is lot to explore around Dalhousie. This is small and very well maintained town in Chamba region of Himachal Pradesh . This Photo Journey shares some of the exciting places around Chamba and how to plan a good one day tour through Khajjiar, Chamba & Chamera etc. CHAMERA HYDROLIC PROJECT Chamera Hydroelectric Project is located in Banikhet, 7 kms from Dalhousie. The water body near the lake is very scenic and is a popular boating spot. Chamera Dam is around 40 kilometers from Chamba Town. It takes approximately 1.5 hrs to reach the place is road condition is good. Overall it’s a little dry terrain as compared to Dalhousie and Khajjiar. And temperature also goes up as we go towards Chamera Dam.  As you move out from Chamba town, you follow Ravi river for some time and then take right. After 45 minutes of drive, you get a glimpse of Chemera Dam.
