Another must-see event to watch is the Snake boat races of Kerala. Each snake boat (Chundan Vallam as is called in Malayalam) is rowed by around 124 people. Its rare sporting event and anybody irrespective of age, will surely enjoy this. The two major snake boats races are Alappuzha Nehru Trophy VallamKali and Aranmula Uthrittathi Vallamkali. (VallamKali means Boat race in Malayalam) Alappuzha Nehru Trophy VallamKali held in the second Saturday of August. Aranmula Uthrittathi Vallamkali is held on Uthrittathi day of Malayalam calendar, which normally falls on the 5th day after Onam, Kerala's main festival.
