Sattal is another interesting place in Kumaun. I have been there thrice. My first trip to Sattal is most memorable one. It was 2006 when I visited Sattal first. That time, we stayed in camps on the other side of lake. This PHOTO JOURNEY shares more about Sattal, things to do and experiences of staying in camps.
It's an overnight journey from Delhi to Sattal. We reached at the lake in morning and then our hosts arranged boats for us to cross the lake. We had to go to GetAway Jungle camps in Sattal. After crossing the lake, we had to walk a bit to reach the camps. It took 15-20 minutes to reach camps. Camp staff helped us taking the luggage, so it was a leisure walk in the morning. While walking through the forest, we saw lot of colorful birds. Although it was the month of may, but we encountered various birds around the lake as well as in the forest.
Finally we hit the camps in the middle of the jungle. Now we got to know about the significance of the name of these camps 'GetAway Jungle Camps'. All of us got out tents. At that time the camp had shared washrooms and not sure about the current state.
Tasty food is served in the dining area which is made up of wood and open from all sides. Everything is built in such a way that you feel the true essence of camping in jungle. At times, some local dishes are also served. They make good non-veg :).
Just close to the dining place, there is an area which is used for bonfire in the evening. We had lot of fun during bonfire. This was my first trip with new team-mates at Adobe. So bonfire time was the best time for me to know more about folks in my team. This trip happened just after my joining at Adobe.
Place is full of flora fauna and green landscapes all around. Some of us used to trek in the morning. We climbed upto the surrounding hill-tops and they offer great views of lakes on other side of the camp.
Camps also offer adventure activities like Rock climbing, rappelling, river crossing and they have built few group activities similar to what you see armymen doing during their training. It's fun.
There is a huge ground near the camps where you can play the sport of your choice. Some of our group members had fun playing cricket, football and volleyball. If I remember correctly camp staff offered us the cricket kit to play & volleyball, but not very sure.
As the name of place says, there are 7 lakes around Sattal. Surrounded by green landscapes, these lakes look beautiful. Especially the time when all these pine leaves are lying around, the place looks so colorful. The mix of green and orange is always interesting for a photographer.
Camping around these lakes and beautiful landscapes can be very interesting for adventure lovers. Just make a note that Sattal is not a place for you, if you need lot of hustle bustle and like doing shopping during your trips. Having said that, there are some shops around the lake to buy local stuff.
So if you are someone who like peace with a mix of adventure around natural beauty, then GetWay Jungle Camps is a good place for you. Beautiful located inside the jungle full of green landscapes and birding opportunities. Do comment back if you want to know more about Sattal or any related stuff.
