Few days back Travelling Camera covered Literature Studio's Creative Writing Workshop for children aged 6 - 9 years in Delhi. And unlike previous workshops that we have covered, this time I had questions about how effective a creative writing workshop can be for such small children. And I was in for a surprise.
The workshop was called 'Naughty Monty Goes for a Walk' and there were eight children in attendance.
As the workshop proceeded, all children were drawn in and they started participating in all the exercises.
I could see that many of them had started helping each other out whenever someone got stuck with something.
Towards the end, all children were invited to read out the stories they had created during the workshop and I was surprised by the amount of individuality and creativity each kid demonstrated.
I feel this workshop was a good initiatives and by the end of it all my doubts about whether children could benefit from a creative writing workshop had vanished.
Literature Studio's workshop had proven to me that children can write, they just need the right people and the right curriculum to guide them.
