Looking Back at November 2014 || A month full of excitement, memories, and nostalgia

"It looks like a painting."

If you are a photographer, chances are you must have come across this statement, and most probably it would have been about one of your photographs. I happened to be present when a photographer friend received this comment. He nodded graciously and smiled. Later, I asked him how the comment had made him feel.

"Nothing," he said.

"Nothing?"

"No. Nothing," he smiled.

I was surprised because I had assumed that he would have felt very proud. But his response made me question my own assumptions. Why did I assume he would have felt proud? After all the comment is not exactly a compliment. I mean it isn't a complaint either. It is just a comment. It is like being told your prose reads like poetry. It is a compliment if that was your intention in the first place - to write prose that is poetic. But if that wasn't the intention, then the statement "your prose reads like poetry" is just a statement.

I shared this with you today because I wanted to hear your opinion on this. What do you think this statement means? How do you, as a photographer, take it? To you, does it sound like praise or just a statement of facts. Do leave a comment and share your thoughts on this.

And in the meanwhile, let me take you on a trip back in time through the awesome month of November, 2014.

One of the most exciting events this month was without doubt the JK Tyre Racing Championship 2014, organized at the Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida. In fact, if I close my eyes and try to recall the event, I can still hear the incredible noise the cars and the bikes make as they zip past the stands. More about this experience at:

Another important event this month was the Writers' Retreat Literature Studio organized in partnership with Te Aroha. The event saw several renowned poets and authors gather and exchange views on various relevant topics. It was as much a train ride as it was a nostalgic trip down the memory lane for VJ for whom a ride in the Himalayan Queen was part of the daily routine during his college days. So here is VJ revisiting his days spent in college: http://phototravelings.blogspot.in/2014/11/beautiful-ride-in-himalayan-queen-from.html

And in November we were still dealing with the Diwali hangover. VJ shared his firecracker-free diwali with his niece. Do go through this adorable post: http://phototravelings.blogspot.in/2014/11/diwali-2014-celebrations-with-my-niece.html
