“Delhi through my Lens” - A Photography Exhibition by Arvinder Singh Rooprai

Some call it the city of Cities, others a city of monuments and still others a melting pot of cultures and civilizations. I relate to Delhi as the City of Change – a city which is always evolving, adapting and embracing life.

From the “gallis” (streets) of Chandani Chowk (in old Delhi) named after food, to iconic India Gate, to the Tombs & Forts from our History, to the forever renovating high heeled Connaught Place, Delhi is a paradox. Modernism, materialism, culture and spirituality all find a way to coexist here.

I have been born and brought up in Delhi and have seen it go through dramatic evolutions. From being excavated in the late 90’s for laying Metro tracks to getting vivid facelifts for Common Wealth Games – Delhi always lives up to the challenge and remains flexible. I started with Photography only to capture people and the city in its many forms. After a decade of pursuing my inspiration – I am confident that the diversity of mystery and mysticism of my Delhi will keep me engaged for a lifetime.

Here are a few clicks (in the exhibition) that I produce to share my essence of Delhi – as I see it from the viewfinder. But the true essence of the picture lies in how the picture speaks to you as each speaks a complete story of its own.

These are some Photos that are on display

“PAINT IT YELLOW ”
Location: Safdarjung Tomb
(Notes: Rising Sun from behind the Tomb presented this beautiful photographic opportunity and during post processing an old paper texture was applied.)
“CHANDANI CHOWK”
Location: Streets of Chandani Chowk
(Notes: The streets of Chandani Chowk are very calm and peaceful before the regular hustle-bustle of life starts here)

“INQUISITIVE”
Location: Qutub Minar
(Notes: The foreign tourists exploring the engraved pillar corridors of Qutub Minar)
“THE LIGHT RAY”
Location: Sultangari, Vasant Kunj
(Notes: I waited for long and finally got this wonderful moment where the past ‘grave’, present ‘person holding baby’ and the future ’baby’ all came together under one light)

“BLOSSOM RED”
Location: Safdarjung Tomb
(Notes: Used 50mm lens to have the Bokeh effect on the Tomb in backdrop and applied old paper texture filter in post processing)

“THE SUN LAMP”
Location: India Gate
(Notes: Having patience in photography always yield results, to get the perfect shot with Sun perfectly placed behind the lamp and then flying bird to come into the frame needs some patience)

“WATER DISPENSER”
Location: Chandani Chowk
(Notes: It's an abundant water dispenser that can still be spotted in some parts of old Delhi, quenching the thrust of people in scorching Sun of summer)

“DADI-POTI KA MAKBRA”
Location: Hauz Khas/Green Park
(Notes: In this pair of Tombs the larger one (Dadi) is Lodhi era mausoleum and the smaller (Poti) is Tughlaq era)

Great pics Arvind. You're right Delhi has everything for a photographer to find the object of his/her interest.
I would like to see some pics of Jama Masjid's adjacent area after dusk. It would be amazing to see people standing infront of roadside vendors, waiting for their Chickens to roast on Koyle ki Angeethi.
Another thing i wish to see in pics is River Yamuna as birdeye view. Can you manage to capture some water beneath the thick layer of Delhi's Dung. I wonder if u manage to click on that Rotten Eggs which smells like hell i always come across to this stentch whenever I come Delhi via Ghaziabad from Kanpur. What is the source of Rotten Eggs in Yamuna? Do Dilliwales offer some kindda Aarti involving Sade Ande? Im so curious about that eggs, really!
