The Ferry Building @ San Francisco

When I visited San Francisco, my colleague offered to take me around and I gladly accepted. He instructed me to take BART from Fremont and get down at the Embarcadero station in San Francisco. After that, I was to walk down to the Ferry building and meet him at the Blue Bottle Cafe. The instructions were very clear and even I managed to find my way around.

On reaching the Ferry building, I realized that there was a farmer's market in front of it. And it took me about 10 minutes to realize that there are shops inside the building as well and that is where the blue bottle cafe was. Anyways, the atmosphere was alive and buzzing. Fragrance of fresh fruit and lavendars was very inviting and we spent about two hours there.

They were very different from any strawberries I had eaten earlier. In fact, everything was bigger than I had ever seen. The market was one hell of an experience. I wish we had them in India as well. I even tasted oyster. It was weird (yuck!).Right in front of the Ferry building, I was surprized to see a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. He seemed so out of place and yet at home with the surroundings.Right across the street outside Ferry Building, we came across one of the most bizarre construction I have ever seen (besides the steels sprouts near AIIMS , Delhi). Look at the picture above and judge for yourself. This is known as the Vaillancourt Fountain named after its designer. It was possible to walk beneath the fountain from where it was possible to capture some slow shutter speed shots of the water. The experience was amazing.
