Photo Journey on Manali-Chandigarh Highway - Punjab Region

Few days back I had shared some photographs of NH-21 in Himachal Region and here is another set of Photographs in Punjab region...

After reaching planes of punjab, after going down from Srwaghat ,we encounter first water stream near Kiratpur (Gurudwara Road)... with a huge board saying "WELCOME TO PUNJAB"...

Punjab Agriculture is highly popular all over India. Punjab is well-known for its agricultural activities and plantations in most of the areas. Agricultural activities have occupied a high percentage of land in Punjab because of its land which is perfect for cropping...

"Punjab" derived from the Persian word : Punj (five) and ab (water) was a land of five rivers which formed part of Indus Basin till 1947. After partition of the country, Indus water Treaty-1960 restricted India’s rights of usage to only three Eastern rivers (Sutlej, Ravi and Beas), the three Western rivers (Indus, Chenab and Jhelum) were earmarked for exclusive usage of Pakistan. Punjab does have a very well developed and interlinked river system and widespread 14500 kms long Canal Systems.

Few kilometers into Himachal Pradesh, the highway  runs past Kiratpur Sahib, and Ropar, before again turning direction and entering Punjab near Kundlu. The highway is 67 km-long in Punjab.

Most of the regions in Punjab are very well connected through good roads...
